Course Description

The course provides students with a systematic knowledge of the theory and practice concerning Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Japan. This course enables students to comprehend the essence of SMEs, as well as the current situation and historic roles SMEs have played in the subcontracting system and economic development of Japan. During the first semester, the course will focus on performance and regional development of SMEs, clusters and networks of SMEs, technological innovations and internationalization by SMEs, as well as SME support policies in Japan.
