Course Description

In the spring semester of this course, we aim to understand the present situation of Indian politics. We apply various political theories to the cases of India, and also compare the cases of India with those of Japan. In the class, we study the following topics: (1) political institutions in India, (2) socio-economic factors that have influenced Indian politics, (3) political situation in India after the formation of the new government in 2014, and (4) changes in Indian politics and society under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I will give you a quiz at the end of each class, so that you can check your understanding and express your own opinions on the topics discussed.
