Course Description

Western legal systems are generally divided two-fold: i) a Civil Law system and ii) a Common Law system. Germany and France apply the former, as well as Japan. In contrast, the United States, the United Kingdom and the nations of the Commonwealth adopted the latter system. In this lecture, we will focus with particular view on the legal system of the U.S. in a Common Law. system.
The purpose of this lecture is thusly: i)you will come to understand and can be able to explain the general nature of the Common Law system and the difference that set it apart from the Civil Law system, and ii)you understand and be able to explain the process of how the "rule of law" was/is established.
