Course Description

Getting along with people who have different culture and customs is required in a global society. While they often stimulate our curiosity, foreign culture and customs may also cause surprise and even repulsion. Cultural anthropology is a study to recognize diversity by studying other cultures and understanding that what we believe is “common sense” is not a world standard. There, we can find ways to socialize in a global society.
In this class, students come to understand human diversity through several topics: relatives, gender, sexuality, and religion/rituals, by studying anthropological theories to learn how to communicate with others better.
