Course Description

Since the beginning of time, humans have created various kinds of paintings through the act of "drawing.

However, painting has not always been recognized as a creative act in which a particular artist freely expresses himself based on the thoughts and images that come to mind. In the history of art, paintings have been created as a means of conveying information to people belonging to the same social group, for religious purposes, and even at the request of powerful people who wanted to show their own prestige.

In the Renaissance period, when painters established their status as artists in the West, they did not paint abstract paintings as we see today. It was only after the modern era that painting became an act of painting what one wanted to paint and reflecting one's individuality and assertion in one's expression.

In this class, which focuses on the issue of the changing values of painting, we will look at the historical changes in the act of "painting" together with the students, using the genre of painting called "painting within painting" as an example.
