Course Description

The financial industry is inextricably linked to the real economy. It is a reflection of basic knowledge for those who plan to work in a financial services industry.
Also, for those who look to work in a non-financial industries or other occupations, you will encounter finance issues in your daily work. As such, learning the basics of finance should be to your advantages.
This lecture will give an overview of the financial industry in general, including life and non-life insurance, securities, and asset management, with a focus on banking. By gaining the wholistic perspective of the financial services, you will deepen the understanding of the flow of money within the society. Spring semester will focus on banking while autumn semester will handle insurance, securities and asset management industries.
In addition, we will take up important themes such as SDGs and ESG investment, which have been attracting attention in recent years, and learn what issues the financial services industry must address in order to contribute in establishing a sustainable society.
I will be picking up articles from the Nihon Keizai Shimbun from time to time and explain and discuss latest topics in the class in order for you to raise interest about what is happening in the financial world.
