Course Description

In this seminar course designed for fourth-year students, we will explore American culture through Marvel Studios’ superhero movie “Black Panther (2018).” Based on comic strip superhero of the same name, the hugely successful movie is not just entertaining, but also provides us the opportunity for discussing racism, colonization, and resources. This course will explore the portrayal of women, Africa, black communities, and themes of Afrofuturism in the movie. Students are expected to participate actively in group discussions, workshops, presentations, and other class activities.
