Course Description

What is the global community? Should we distinguish it from the international community or society? Answering these questions is hard, even for professional scholars in the field of international relations. To understand the basic characteristics of the global and international community, this class in the first semester will focus on four basic topics that are very related to such traditional major issues in the global community as war and peace: (1) collective security and military alliances, (2) the First and Second World Wars and their impact on the contemporary world, (3) the Cold War as the “Long Peace,” and (4) the roles the Unites States of America has played in remodeling the modern international order that was originally "invented" and shaped by European powers.
