Course Description

This class aims to provide students with basic knowledge of various aspects of "Japanese culture" through annual events, as well as specialized knowledge to contribute to the inheritance and development of cultural traditions and to be able to make use of this knowledge in various fields. There is a Japanese culture, which is also called "Shikikari" or "Narawashi", handed down from generation to generation in the private sector. Among these "Shikirari" and "Narawashi", this course will give concrete lectures on annual events that students naturally perform in their daily lives, and help them understand the basic knowledge and research methods of folklore.The first semester will begin with the Hinamatsuri (Girls' Festival) and focus on events up to the Obon Festival.At the end of the semester, students will choose one of the annual events covered in the first semester and conduct fieldwork (interviews with family members) on their own family's annual events, so that they can make use of the information in various fields.
