Course Description

The aim of this class is to acquire basic knowledge about various aspects of "Japanese culture" through folk performing arts, and to be able to explain them.
Throughout Japan, there are performing arts handed down by local people. In folklore and performing arts research, these performing arts are called "folk performing arts. In this class, students will learn basic knowledge of what kind of performing arts "folk performing arts" are, and in what areas and by what people they are performed, while taking into account the history of research on folk performing arts.In the second semester, regional characteristics and specific aspects of folk performing arts will be covered. In particular, we will touch upon the issues of performers.Problems faced by performers of folk performing arts will be discussed and the meaning of folk performing arts to be handed down in modern society will be considered.
