Course Description

Cinema is closely linked to American history due to its ability to reconstruct past events and phenomena for viewers in the present to experience. This course explores several major themes of contemporary society through analysis of select Hollywood films. Thematic foci that will be discussed in this course are discrimination, liberty, compassion, science, and human existence. The specific events and phenomena of the films that will be screened in this course include Jewish migration to America in the late 19th Century, post-World War II scientific development, and the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. This course is held in English.
