Course Description

The main research subjects of archaeology are remains such as houses and tombs, and relics such as potteries and stone tools. Various knowledge and skills are required to record and utilized these materials. So, using the actual materials, students will learn these knowledge and skills for the purpose of this subject.
In the spring season, students observe and measure actual stone tools from the Arakawadai site in Niigata prefecture, which was excavated by History Department,Teikyo Univertsity. In doing so, the students will conduct a stone tool production experiment on pebble stones such as obsidian, andesite, and hard shale, and compare the result with the Palaeolithic tool, flake, and core from the Arakawadai site. After that, the students
learns how to survey ruins and relics using surveying instruments
