Course Description

Using historical documents written at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate and during the Meiji Restoration period as texts, students will develop the ability to read and understand historical documents, and to investigate and discuss the conditions of the times and regions behind the documents. The texts will include historical documents related to the Boshin War in each clan or region. Each student will be in charge of one historical document and will make three presentations in stages to deepen their understanding of the content and explore their own research methods. We will also actively discuss the historical materials of other students by comparing them with our own, and deepen our understanding of the period of the Bakumatsu Restoration by examining the various aspects of the response to the war.
