Course Description

In ancient and medieval Japan, the issue of succession to the throne was closely related to the decision of who would take power. The existence of the emperor's queen and descendants was not just a matter of kinship, but an important issue that had a major impact on succession to the throne and inheritance of the mansion. In this lecture, we will analyze the relatives of the emperor from the perspective of family history, and consider the changes in the composition of the relatives of the emperor over time and their political historical significance.
