This course is an introduction to modern Japanese history. This semester, we will cover the period between the end of the Edo period(1854-1867)and the First World War(1914-1918).
Much attention will be given to politics, foreign relations, society and culture.
There are two objectives: 1)familiarize foreign students with modern Japanese history and 2)improve English language skills of Japanese students.
