授業の概要（ねらい）

The purpose of this course is twofold. First, students will practice their global reading skills and close reading skills through various activities. They will be provided opportunities to critically examine the ideas in the texts, as well as exercises through which to acquire vocabulary and grammatical knowledge. Second, students will be given tasks to write a coherent and cohesive essay on a familiar topic.
英語で身近な話題から社会問題まで、様々な話題を理解する。またcritical thinking 力を養い、様々な話題について『自分自身の考えを書く力』を養う。留学先ではそのような能力が求められる。エッセイの読解練習をこなしたあと、様々な話題に関して自分の意見を英語で構築する練習を行う。留学前の最終的な基礎力確認の授業である。

授業の到達目標

The objective of this course is to improve the English reading and writing skills of students.
1. 英語の読解力を養う。
2. 英語の語彙力を高める。
3. 正確な英語で「自分自身の考えを書く力」を修得する。

成績評価の方法および基準

授業内提出物及び発表30％、小テスト20％、期末テスト50％

教科書・参考文献

準備学修の内容

予習： 毎回前もってエッセイを読み、新しい単語の意味を調べておくこと。
復習： 学んだことの理解・定着に自主的に努めること。
各unit終了後に行う小テスト(vocabulary) のための準備をすること。

その他履修上の注意事項

・授業の出席確認のため、授業の入退室時に必ず学生証をカードリーダーにかざすこと。
・教科書は毎回必ず持参すること。もし忘れた場合は、必ず授業の事前にコピーを入手すること。
・教科書・辞書・筆記用具を毎回必ず授業に持参すること。
・授業中の携帯・スマホ使用禁止。遅刻厳禁。
