授業の概要(ねらい)

This course offers new insights into the age-old theme of policy-driven development of a national economy by showing how the US government has shaped the structure of American economy from its founding to this day. Students will discover aspects of the US economic history, policy intervention and market structure. The general aim is to reassess how national economy is created and nurtured through interactions between policy and market behavior across different settings, times and contexts. Students taking this course will become familiar with key elements of the US specific economic structure by learning to critically assess the assigned texts in the class.

The course will be conducted through a combination of short presentations, in-class reading and discussion of texts.

Students will gain the basic understanding of the historical development of the US economy with special reference to the interaction between economic policy and market actors' behavior.

This course is designed to introduce students to the study of the US economy and will be very accessible to students who have little knowledge of the US economy.
Students taking this course is required to give a short presentation at least once in a semester.
