This course focuses on introducing about Vietnam and its economic development history and characteristics. The course emphasizes the use of case study of Vietnam (a Socialist developing country in Southeast Asia region) as examples to help students to understand and compare issues of economic system, structure, and development more comprehensively.
Students will be able to understand the structure of socialist developing economy under Reform. The issues include macroeconomic orientation and policy directed by the State; roles of agriculture, industry, service and trade in the economy, especially export and import industries; students will also know about the need and issues of international economic integration as well as the influence and challenges of the 4th industrial revolution on economic development.
3.1 Active participation and engagement in class; and compulsory attendance (100% of classes): 30%
3.2 Midterm work – Group presentation: 30%
3.3 Final work – Group presentation: 40%

Students will be provided with relevant articles, data sources, news, videos, etc. for each topic to read before or during lectures.
Students will be formed into small groups to prepare and deliver their group-work (in form of presentation) in front of class on relevant topics provided by lecturer in order to complete midterm and final work of the course.
