授業の概要（ねらい）

*Spring semester*:
The main purpose of this course is for students to acquire basic knowledge in some aspects of Japanese history and culture(s), setting them back in the context of the history of globalisation.
One other purpose is for the students to learn about and use methods to read and analyse historical documents, both in English and in Japanese.
【秋学期】：
この授業の主な目的は、日本の歴史と文化のいくつかの側面について、グローバル化の歴史の中でそれらを振り返りながら、基礎知識を習得することである。
もう一つの目的は、英語と日本語の両方で歴史文書を読み、分析する方法について学び、使用することである。

授業の到達目標

*Spring semester*:
In this course, learners will explore and discuss diverse aspects of the history of Japan, placed in the context of the history of globalisation.
By the end of the course, students will have in-depth understanding of various concepts and issues regarding these topics, and they should be able to:
1. understand and explain key concepts and ideas;
2. demonstrate a nuanced and well-informed understanding of the history of Japan in the context of the history of globalisation;
3. discuss their ideas on the history of Japan with others;
4. deploy appropriate analytical tools to critically examine various historical materials.
【秋学期】：
この授業では、学生達はグローバリゼーションの歴史という背景における、日本の歴史の多様な側面を探求し、論じる。
授業終了時には、それらのトピックに関する様々な概念や問題点を深く理解し、以下のことができるようになる。
1. 主要な概念や考え方を理解し、説明することができる。
2. グローバリゼーションの歴史という文脈の中で、日本の歴史についてニュアンスと情報に基づいた理解を示すことができる。
3. 日本史に関する自分の考えを他者と議論することができる。
4. 様々な歴史的資料を批判的に検討するために、適切な分析手段を用いることができる。

成績評価の方法および基準

*Spring semester*:
Group work, short tests (in class): 50%
Homework, "preparation sheets" (at home): 25%
Attendance, class effort: 25%
※ Full score for regular attendance is only given to those students attending all classes. Each absence will result in a 10% lowing of your final grade. Students who miss 4 classes or more will fail the course and receive no credit. If you are absent for any reason, you must immediately contact the lecturer through e-mail and explain. Students being late more than 15 minutes for no valid reason will be counted as being absent!
【秋学期】：
グループワーク、小テスト（授業内）：50%
宿題、「予習シート」（自宅）：25%
出席率、授業への取り組み：25%
※ 全授業に出席した場合のみ、出席として満点が与えられる。欠席1回につき、最終成績が10％下がる。4回以上欠席した場合は不合格となり、単位はもらえない。何らかの理由で欠席した場合は、直ちに講師にメールで連絡し、説明すること。正当な理由なく15分以上遅刻した場合は、欠席とみなす。

準備学修の内容

*Spring semester*:
Students will be expected to complete assignments (mainly readings and/or questions on readings) in preparation for the next class. Depending on the topic, these should take around 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
At the beginning of the class, small tests will be done from time to time, and/or "preparation sheets” will have to be submitted.
Students will also have to summarize the contents of some lectures at the end of the class and/or submit reflection papers about what they learned.
【秋学期】：
次の授業の準備として、宿題（主に読み物や読み物に関する質問）を出すことが求められることがある。トピックにもよるが、30分～1時間程度で完成できるはずである。
また、授業の始めに小テストを実施したり、「予習シート」を提出したりすることもある。
さらに、授業の最後には、授業の内容を要約したり、学んだことについてリフレクション・ペーパーを提出したりすることもある。

その他履修上の注意事項

*Spring semester*:
All work is carried out in ***English*** in class and that includes interaction between students and from students to teacher. Students are therefore expected to have a basic knowledge of English at university level, but perfect English is NOT required to take this class (the instructor does not use himself a perfect English). When necessary, additional explanations (e.g. difficult terms) will be given in Japanese.
The will to develop your English skills, to practice English, and an interest in history and historical texts is expected.
Students will deal with reading various historical texts, study the vocabulary, and will discuss these and try to answer questions about them.
The format of the course will be as interactive and participatory as possible, with the help of screened slides in order to explain important facts and/or concepts. Classes will focus on group work, cooperation between students to understand the texts and answer questions, in order to build a common knowledge about the history of Japan in the context of the history of globalisation.
The key to success in this course is weekly preparation and review of the class content, and active participation during class discussion.

授業は生徒間、生徒と先生のやりとりも含めすべて【日本語】で行われる。したがって、履修者は大学レベルの日本語の基礎知識を持っていることが期待されるが、このクラスを受講するのに完璧な日本語レベルが必要ではない。必要な場合は、難しい用語など、英語で補足説明をする。
日本語力を伸ばしたい、日本語を練習したいという意欲と、歴史や史料に興味があることが期待される。
学生達は様々な歴史的文章を読解し、語彙を調べたり、それについて議論したり、質問に答えたりする。
この授業は、重要な事実や概念を説明するためにスライドを使用し、できるだけ双方向的かつ参加型にする予定である。授業はグループワークに重点を置き、生徒同士が協力してテキストを理解し、質問に答えることで、グローバル化の歴史の中で日本の歴史に関する共通の知識を身につけることを目指す。
この授業で成功する鍵は、毎週の予習と復習、そしてクラスでのディスカッションに積極的に参加することである。
