Course Description

The course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to understand the concept of information, the information society, literary property, and exhibit information providing system in museum.
Class activities will be a combination of lectures, group discussion, and presentation. Writing reports will be required almost every week.
This course is related to educational goals 2,and 3 of General Basic Subjects.

Course Objectives

(1)Students will be able to predict the future of the information society.
(2)Students will be able to explain kind of the information in the museum.
(3)Students will be able to learn about the Copyright Act in Japan.
(4)Students will be able to understand the exhibit information providing system in museum.
(5)Students will be able to make a suggestion about the future role of museums in social education.
(6)Students will be able to explain the role of a curator and the importance of social education.

Grading Policy

(1) Group activities / presentation (30%)
(2) Learning portfolio (outcomes and reflections of learning) (50%)
(3) Final report (20 %)

We will return the submitted items such as Learning portfolio, Reports and so on and give feedback. The final report will be explained on the LMS.

Requirements(Assignments)

As a pre-assignment, Students read the scope of the next lesson of the textbook and work on advance tasks (about 1 hour each time) (2nd - 5th, 13th - 14th)
Presenters prepare for presentation (about 3 hours each time) and Students other than the presenters read the textbooks and work on advance tasks. (About 1 hour each time)
(6th-12th)
The pre-assignment will be shown at the end of the lesson and will be uploaded to LMS.
As a post-assignment, after the presentation, the presenters prepare reports (about two hours)(8th-12th).
Students other than presenters will prepare reports after class(about 1 hour) (2nd,4th-5th,8th-13th).
Students will make final reports (about two hours) (14th).
The post-assignment will be shown at the end of the lesson and will be uploaded to LMS.

Note

It is a museum curator qualification compulsory subject.
Students will use LMS.

Schedule

1Chapter 1 "Evolutionary Museum"
Students will consider issues in the information society.
2Chapter 2 "History of information and media"
Students will learn about information.
3Students will make presentations about what information is.
4Chapter 3 "History of the development of museums and media"
Students will summarize the features of the information society.
5Students will make presentations about the characteristics of the information society and discuss about it.
6Preparation for presentation 1
Student will select one theme from chapter 7 and chapter 9. and prepare plan for presentation.
7Preparation for presentation 2
Students will gather materials for presentation on themes and create slides.
8Presentation 1
Students will listen to the presentation of chapter 7 "Various exhibition methods using media" to deepen understanding of what kind of method is available.
9Presentation 2
Students will listen to the presentation of chapter 7 "Various exhibition methods utilizing media" to deepen the understanding of features of each method.
10Presentation 3
Students will listen to the presentation of Chapter 7 "Various exhibition methods utilizing Media" and propose future tasks.
11Presentation 4
Students will listen to the the presentation of chapter 9 "Building digital archives and issues" and deepen your understanding of the outline.
12Presentation 5
Students will listen to the the presentation of Chapter 9 "Building digital archives and issues" and deepen the understanding of future issues.
13Chapter 11 "Legal issues of information and media"
Students will read the contents of this chapter about and learn about intellectual property rights.
14Chapter 12 "Cooperation with regional media"
Students will read the contents of this chapter and make presentation on the way of the museum.
15Final examination and explanation
Students will summarize the reflection of learning in sentences and write a final report.
