Course Description
In this course, we shall study the thoughts of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, Friedrich List, John Maynard Keynes, Milton Friedman, et al, and on the basis of their thoughts, we consider the following topics:
1. Economic significance of the Industrial Revolution.
2. Importance of the “big government”.
3. Inevitability of globalization.
The format of this course is mainly “lecture”, but students will take “review tests” each month (total of three times) and participate in “group discussions” to develop the essential abilities of communication and presentation.
This course is related to Diploma Policy 3 of Department of Regional Economics, Faculty of Economics.
Course Objectives
This course aims to :
1. Teach students the history of economic thought by studying the ideas of economists and economic thinkers’ lives and the contemporaneous politic and economic circumstances.
2. On the basis of the theories of the above economists and economic thinkers, students will come to have a deeper understanding of the “universality of capitalism” (studied in the course “Introduction to Economic History”).
3. On the basis of said theories, students will come to more deeply understand the “diversity of capitalism” (also studied in the course “Introduction to Economic History”).
