Course Description

In this course, we study the European and American history of ancient, middle, and early modern ages.
The format of this course is mainly “lecture”, but students will take the “review tests” every month (three tests) and participate in “group discussions” to develop essential abilities of communication and presentation.
This course is related to Educational Goals 1 and 3 of General Basic Subjects.

Course Objectives

This course aims to :
1. Give the student an understanding of the “universality beyond history” and “diversity due to the history” of human beings.
2. On the basis of this “universality” and “diversity”, gain the ability to understand the realities of the world including Japan, and the ability to foresee the future.
3. Each student to establish her/his own historical perspective on development of society and the appropriate behavior in this society.
