Course Description

This seminar is to understand current government public finance issues in Japan. Students need to carry out investigation towards the local authorities’ public finance situations, which are in the area of their origin. They also need to make suggestions about solution plans. Those are the same requirements as seminar 1, which require the students to read relevant articles, choose the issues within their interests, and finally decide their research topic. Seminar 2 will be be using textbooks as reading materials, group investigation, and group presentation. The final group presentation will be delivered in groups (personal presentation is also acceptable) to reflect and present the conclusion of your chosen topic. Group work and individual work together will help students to gather the thoughts from a team, and deeper one’s independent thinking.
In this course, students will study about DP1,DP2 and DP3.

Course Objectives

The main focus of this course is to bring up the students’ awareness towards public financial issues and regional financial problems, which is also aiming to build up the students’ desire of developing their study even further.

Grading Policy

Seminar work(50%),Deparment’s seminar debriefing session(50%)

Feedback:
All members will share the report materials for the final report session and provide feedback as appropriate.

Preparation:About 1.5 hours
Researching materials, making resumes, making PPTs, making presentation materials, etc.

Review:About 30 minutes
Review the key points as needed for the final report session.

Note

・ Attendance is required every time. No unauthorized absence is allowed.
・ Because of the seminar format, there are deviations and corrections in the lesson plan depending on the number of people and the progress level.
・ The final presentation is the "Joint Seminar" of the Department of Regional Economics.
・ When there is not enough evaluation material, we may ask you to submit another assignment.
