Course Description

Psychology of Emotion

We think we know what emotion is. We know anger, fear, sadness, and joy. We experience such emotions every day. Yet, how well do we really understand what emotion is? Why do we have emotions? What is the biological significance of emotions? Can robots have emotions? Emotion is doubtless a key subject of numerous psychological studies. It is relevant to almost all branches of psychology: cognitive, biological, clinical, developmental, social, and so on.
In this seminar, students are required to locate and introduce research papers on the psychology of emotion. To do so, the textbook entitled Introduction to the Psychology of Emotion (by Professor Hideki Ohira of Nagoya University) will be used as a guide. This seminar will expand participants’ understanding of the psychology of emotion. Students will develop their skills at searching for papers using databases. Furthermore, they will learn to read, grasp the essence of, and master the effective presentation of research. Each of these abilities will likely prove useful for students’ future careers.
