Course Description

This course examines Japan political history since the Meiji Restoration.The primary goal of this course is to learn how and why political leadership under the Constitution of the Empire of Japan was transformed. Secondly,students will learn why Japan went to war with the United States.The third goal is to learn the uniqueness of the Japanese post war political system,under which the Liberal Democratic Party was in power between 1955 to 2009 except only one brief interruption.
