Course Description

This course focuses on the social compact theory, which purports that social order is based not on traditional values or enforcement by people in authority but on the free will of each individual living in the society. Although the social compact theory cannot explain human history and goes against our natural, or traditional, understanding of social order, it has been a driving force in making our modern society possible, a society that is the most free and prosperous in human history.
