Course Description

This course focuses on primary social thoughts of modern society. “Modern society” refers to a certain economic, political, and legal system marked by the rule of law and the market economy. Although this type of social system originated in Western Europe and went against traditional values of most human communities, it has spread globally over the past five hundred years. By studying the history of major thinkers’ efforts to understand, justify, and improve modern society, we aim to understand the characteristics of our own society as a form of modern society.
