Course Description

Mind-altering chemicals have widely been used as medicines, and also taken via food and beverages (e.g. chocolate, coffee, alcohol..), as well as in the form of illegal and quasi-legal (“kiken”) drugs. In this lecture following the brief introduction on the history of psychopharmacology (sometimes referred to as "behavioral pharmacology") and basic pharmacology, recent findings and animal models of various states of mind will be introduced, focusing on pain, anxiety, and depression.
