Course Description

During the first half of the class, students will learn about translations of children's books, film, novels etc. through comparing translations and their originals. Differences between Japanese and British English, Japanese and American English will also be discussed as well as comparing languages, culture and society of the countries concerned. The latter half of the class will be spent in watching parts of films. Students will be required to write an outline of the story and hand in their written arguments on given themes to be discussed later. The latter half of the semester will be spent on researching various themes and preparing for presentations. During the Spring Semester, American films will be featured, and during the Autumn Semester, British films will be featured. Text-book materials will be handed out during the class.
