Course Description

This seminar will examine the poetic and dramatic works of William Shakespeare. Through critical study of selected works, students will become acquainted with Shakespeare’s use of literary conventions, images, and motifs. The works we read in class include Sonnets, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Much Ado about Nothing, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Othello, The Winter’s Tale, and The Tempest. Those poems and plays also serve as the resources of sound, rhythm, and figurations. Students will learn how various arrangements of vowels and consonants generate various shades and nuances of the meaning of the text.
