Course Description

This course introduces the history of Japanese politics and diplomacy from the end of Asia-Pacific War to today. Mainly, this course deals with the establishment and collapse of ”the 1955 System" which is the political framework set up in 1955, and examine about the possibility of democratic politics in post-war period in Japan. Also, from the viewpoint that domestic politics and foreign relations are closely linked, we focus on not only domestic politics but also the international environment such as the Cold War, Japan -U.S. relations and the security issues.
