Course Description

Annual events and rites of passage have remained unchanged in modern times, but have been influenced by many factors, such as foreign exchange, religion, and changing political thought.
In the first semester, we will examine ceremonial books of the Heian era, focusing on annual events and temporary rituals, including those no longer observed in the present, and consider their transition and significance.
