Course Description

In order to conduct research beyond a master's degree, you need to have knowledge about your area of specialization and another area of specialization. We cannot discuss expertise without a comparative perspective. This is an important requirement for graduate students majoring in Japanese history and cultural properties. In this class, students read an American political scientist, Patrick J. Deneen 'Why did liberalism fail?', and examine the development in modern America and how "liberalism" the greatest invention in the history of Western political thought, developed today. The aim of this exercise is to raise the level of knowledge of history from the perspective of how Western political ideas affect the world today. You will find many useful findings for graduate students majoring in Japanese history and cultural properties.
