Course Description

The first half of this class treats fine arts of Florence in the context of patronage and power politics of the Medici and the Pope in the 15th and 16th centuries. The second half treats the court politics in Versaille and Vienna, focusing on the mechanism of power between the Kings and Emperors on the one hand and the aristocrates on the other hand in the 17th and 18th centuries.
