Course Description

Nowadays fine art is an important material for historical study, and in the pre-modern age most works of art reflected the thought and purpose of their orderers who were men of power such as king, emperor, and aristoctrates.This class aims to comprehend the political thought embedded in the ancient art. The first half treats the sculptures of the Parthenon in Athens and images of Alexander the Great, the second half treats the monumental buildings of the Roman Empire.
