Course Description

In this seminar, students will examine the research results of education activities closely, and explore the effective perspectives concerned with social issues; moral instruction in schools, juvenile problems, civic-minded activities, and the history of education in modern Japan.
For example, moral education in Japan has been taught to schoolchildren since 1958 as an informal subject. However, the Abe administration appeals for the strengthening of moral education, and the education ministry started the new school subject("Special Subject Dotoku") in 2018.
Based on this situation, this seminar seeks genuine understanding of theoretical perspective and practical framework of moral education research.
This seminar works best insofar as it becomes a supportive learning community. Each student's active participation is needed, and consistent, prepared and interested involvement is expected.
