Course Description

An aim of this course is to study the thoughts and history of Buddhism and Buddhist-literature. But the range of Buddhism study is very wide. So, in this course, I lecture mainly on Avalokitesvara(観音) and Ksitigarbha(地蔵), because they are so loved and respected widely in the world. In addition, through reading sacred canons and appreciating Buddhism art (statues and paintings) we will understand the ideas of Buddhism style and influences to the culture of China and Japan.
