Course Description

This course offers students an in-depth examination of key positions in the early modern and modern Japanese history of political thought. It is designed to help students to engage in an informed discussion about the Japanese history of political thought in their future professions.

The first part of this course will focus on the political treatise "Talks about Government" (Seidan, 1726-7) by the Edo-period Confucian scholar Ogyu Sorai (1666-1728).
