Course Description

Human abilities do not differ according to nationality or race. The concept of "national character" is also dubious and is now regarded as an unscientific prejudice. Why are some societies dictatorial and some democratic? Barrington Moore 'Ssocial Origin of Dictatorship and Democracy' (Iwanami bunko, 2019) is a classic book that examines these simple questions from a historical and social science perspective. The aim of this exercise is to acquire the knowledge to understand historical issues from a socioscientific approach through thorough reading of this book.

- Classes will be conducted in an exercise format. Students must read the relevant parts of the text that they will be subscribed to on that day and clarify their questions and impressions before participating in the class.
- Students must report at least once or twice. As a reporter, you should summarize where you are in the text you are subscribed to on the day and summarize your issues.
- Based on the report of the reporter, the participants and the teachers discuss and deepen their understanding.
