Course Description

　Kanzo Uchimura, who confronted Christianity, the spiritual core of Western civilization, and maintained a unique position; Kitaro Nishida, who pioneered Japan's first original philosophy; Toyohiko Kagawa, author of the best-selling novel of the Taisho era, who gained worldwide fame as a social entrepreneur and was called a saint of the East; and Muneyoshi Yanagi, who looked at the everyday handicrafts of nameless craftsmen and transformed their beauty into words of thought.
In looking at Japan's modern era, these people strongly remind us of the open possibilities that lead to the future.
　In addition to learning about the writings of these figures, the course will also provide regular opportunities for students to engage in dialogue with each other, deepening the experience of learning about philosophy and thought.
