Course Description

We will study the life and thought of the charismatic thinkers of Japanese philosophy: Prince Shotoku, Kukai, Shinran, Dogen, and Nichiren. In this lecture, we will position them as both teachers and friends, and attempt to have a dialogue with those of us who live in the modern world. This lecture will explain the shared knowledge of the philosophical trials and tribulations of these great thinkers. Taking advantage of the small class size, there will also be regular time for discussion by the students.
