Course Description

Annual events and rites of passage have remained unchanged in modern times, but have been influenced by many factors, such as foreign exchange, religion, and changing political thought.
In the second semester, we will study the rites of the Heian era, focusing on the rites of passage from birth to death, including those no longer observed in the present, and discusses the transition and significance.
