Course Description

This course treats the queens in the ancient Macedonia, the Hellenistic dynasties and the Roman empire, and reinterpret the ancient texts that were written by the male authors and have been regarded as objective and fair descriptions, from the point gender which is now essential to the contemporary research of history. The key words are succession of the throne, polygamy and the power of the queen, which will make clear the image and the reality of the ancient royal women.
