Course Description

This course explores different understanding about the nature of the societies in the West and Japan. Specifically, it focuses on the key liberal ideas including freedom as well as amae which has become the key concept to understand Japanese psychology. It allows students to reconsider the role of civil societies such as state-society relationship, democracy and social movements. It provides an opportunity to rethink deeply about today’s societies we are living in.
