Course Description

In this course, we would like to broadly accept tens of thousands and thousands of years of religious culture as a succession of things that arise from the relationship between humans and things beyond human knowledge. That which is beyond human knowledge is an existence that cannot be captured by human intellect, sensitivity, or will. On the other hand, the term nature is used to describe existence that can be captured by these abilities. Furthermore, we find living things and human being by our own judgment. And we call things that are the result of our mental and material actions something created. In this way, our perspective on the world opens up from the five existences of nature, living things, human being, something created, and things beyond human knowledge.
In addition to this perspective, we will examine culture and civilization from the concept of "the possibility of commons," and explore the meaning of religious culture in this context. The concept will become an important key to thinking about religious culture, culture, and civilization, as well as to dealing with contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, pandemics, and the Anthropocene.
