Course Description

Students will read Japanese and English literature on empirical research in the field of social psychology. In particular, we will focus on survey research that objectively measures human personality, an ambiguous construct, and scientifically elucidates the factors that shape individual differences. We will then deepen our understanding of the methodology of psychological research by accurately reading from the papers the setting of the problem, construction of the hypothesis, selection of the sample, data collection procedures, methods of data analysis, derivation of the analysis results, and interpretation of the results. Furthermore, the course aims to help students master the research techniques necessary to formulate their own research plans, conduct their own surveys, and write their own papers. The possibility that the results of social psychological research can contribute to clinical psychology will also be discussed.
