Course Description

In this course, we discuss the demographic issues of contemporary Japan that have a significant effect on the economy. Topics to be covered include low fertility, the decline and rapid aging of Japan's population, changes in family/household composition, internal/international migration, and population geographies of metropolitan areas and peripheral regions. In this course, basic concepts and methods frequently used in demographic analyses will be explained and the relevant demographic statistics in contemporary Japan will be introduced.
