Course Description

The study of the history of political thought is linked to the study of history, but it is a different study from history. History is a discipline that pursues the truth as it is based on evidence and facts, while the history of political thought is a discipline that examines how humans have viewed the world and how they have constructed standards for value judgment. If the difference between humans and animals is that we have norms and can make value judgments, then the history of political thought is also anthropology. The history of political thought is the historical appearance of this difference. And it is Western political thought that has become the dominant way of thinking about the "ideal" world we live in today. Through this class, the aim is to understand what Western values are. It is a very enjoyable activity, so please join us with the intention of having fun.
In the first semester, we will focus on classical antiquity, from ancient Greece and Rome to the Middle Ages. It is a dazzling world.
