Course Description

The theme of this class is "Deciphering This Society.
The society in which we live is piled up with various problems, and it is not only the responsibility of researchers to tackle these problems, but also the duty of students who study at universities. However, social and political issues are the result of a complex interplay of various historical and social factors, and without deciphering these complexities, it is impossible to acquire a critical perspective on the current situation.
In this class, we will read and discuss literature on several themes in order to decipher the complexity of the society we live in today. The topics covered will range from democracy, Japan's postwar problems, and political issues in Japan, all of which are important issues that shape the society in which we live. We hope that students who are aware of the problems of this society will actively participate.
