Course Description

In this course, we’ll study various examples for Japanese regional development and town management after 1980s. It includes (a) the problem of accelerating monopolar concentration to Tokyo (b) changes of townscape of midtown and suburbs of Tokyo which caused by bubble economy (c) the problem of severing local governments' financial issues after the bubble collapse (d) Private-Finance-Initiative(PFI) and Public-Private Partnership(PPP) (e) Furusato-Nohzei or the Hometown Tax System introduced in 2008 (f) the effect of recent "Tower Mansion Boom" to the regional society, and so on.
